Art Group MICHI, who are in WEST 1-B until Sunday. As you may have noticed for some time now, we have been uploading photos from Flickr to the blog. We are endeavouring to upload a few photos plus artist info for as many artists as possible who exhibit in the gallery. We hope that it will be an extra way for artists to connect with more people via Flickr and get their work out there! Brian told us all about these two young men yesterday in his blog, so I went downstairs to check them out, and was luckily just in time to catch the daily writing frenzy! Written all over himself, the artist sat on the floor singing away to himself whilst scribbling all over the floor, bits of paper, and pretty much anything that comes his way. I didn’t get close enough to find out if he’d write something on me too, but if you drop by the gallery this afternoon, you can maybe find out for yourself…
Japone Panic!, according to all reports has been a totally excellent week here at Design Festa! I wasn’t able to make it to any of the performances over the weekend, which saddened me enough as it was until I arrived at the office this morning and saw some of the photos! I had missed the spectacular Design Festa Gallery debut of The Mutual Aid Society for Refugees of Expression! Some of you may have seen this group perform at the last Design Festa in May. Dale and Clare

Old friends from days gone by in Brisbane dropped by the gallery today, Dale and Clare! Dale said he’s blown away by the concept, and Clare thought some of the kids back home in Brisbane would be pretty excited about An-fill’s clothing in WEST 1-C. They also happen to be staying at Sakura Hostel in Asakusa, and were pretty happy about their free cup of tea! Thanks for dropping by guys, great to catch up!
Japone Panic!!

Design Festa’s much anticipated Japone Panic is kicking off tomorrow! There’s already a bit of action going on around the place, with An-fill already set up in West 1-C, and the Haunted House on the second floor of the East Gallery under construction! Gallery Visitors!

Robert, Rui and Susie from Melbourne, Australia dropped by the gallery this afternoon. They’re on their way back home from what sounds like a really fantastic trip visiting family and friends in New York, Oslo and London. Rui and Susie have been to Japan before – about twenty years ago – but this is Robert’s first trip. He said it’s pretty cool, and all the talking machinery around the place, escalators for example, has made a bit of an impression. They found the gallery by chance wandering around Harajuku. They also said our wine prices are the most reasonable they’ve come across in Tokyo so far! Hope you have a good trip home, and maybe we’ll see you here again sometime! Starting from today and running until Saturday, Sonomi Osaki is exhibiting in EAST 304. Fantastic goldfishes abound! She told us that she used to have her own aquarium at home…but unfortunately all the fish died, so she decided to honour them by painting them! We’re very pleased she did, and recommend you take a look at the motorcycle fish.

Red or Blue, Blue or Red Exhibition

Saito Ryoji and Rieko are showing their work in WEST 2D&E from the 17th until the 23rd of September. These guys have made a huge effort to make the rooms comfortable and welcoming, drinks are available too. Ryoji’s especially keen to explain his works to anyone who walks in the door, I had a lot of fun visiting and hearing about his art! WEST 2D is mostly taken up with Rieko’s photography. Colorful Exhibition

A group exhibition began today in WEST 2A. A group of four friends are showing their photography and painting. The works all have quite a happy vibe, lots of flowers and cute things. And lots of free postcards! Running until the 21st.
