Mamagoto Room – 1c

May 8th, 2008

Everything in this room looks fresh and happy, you almost can smell a scent of lemon or oranges. One part of the room shows drawings of flowers, put in a beautiful wooden frame. It also offers professionally made T-Shirts and scarfs with paintings of flowers on them. The colors are very spring time like. The artist even published a book with flower drawings.
The other part of the room from the artist called Matsukamaki from Saitama looks quite different. Colorful and happy though, but illustrations of cute things and people.

Mamagoto – Toy Camera

May 8th, 2008

It is quite surprising how much you can do with a little toy camera. You work with different light, foreground and backround and (mostly intense) colors. Room West 1G is shared by 15 people until monday. You can see how different they used the little cameras and how different they present their output.

an-fill — Gothic and Punk style

April 24th, 2008

Clothes for Goth and Punk are very creative. Instead of buying bulk commodity there is nothing better than an artistic piece of unique work. Akiko Nara from Akita makes for her own brand “an-fill” the design, printing and cutting. She also offers a wide range of accessories, like earrings, tie, mobile phone jewelery, hats.

1B Project T.K.A

April 21st, 2008

………running until Sun 23rd, this first time collaboration between friends Toshio Tanaka, Hisako Asai & Kaori Motoki offers highly diverse and individualistic approaches from this trio of artists, Tanaka-san’s photographs
drew me in to the point of distraction due to his instinctive “framing “of the
subject chosen, i was embarrassed trying to blogsnap his work, and in fact trying to describe the subtlties and expression of Motoki-san & Asai-san’s work is quite beyond me, i like GG Allin and I.C.P,
Great!

Our office staff exhibits! Bunny D.

April 3rd, 2008

Design Festa staff are not people in buissiness suits, most of us are artists too! Our office-bunny Toshie Tomita is a painter for 20 years! Her newer acryl-paintings often has a rockin` bunny in it, that´s where the artist name Bunny D. refers to.
But this bunny is not typically Japanese – which would be a cute pink one with saucer eyes and hearts around it. This Bunny is a scary one, with big teath and a wicked smile. We love her humor and visitors will too. Last week MTV Japan interviewed her for the masks she created.
But don´t miss to check out her two sculptures! Under the name “Memento” they are made together with another artist. They are easy built. Toshie: “We built them out of old newspaper and painted the whole thing with bright colors. It was such fun!”. The two figures “a” and “un” stand for husband and wife (middle pictures). The words “a un” are very old Japanese language and mean “the feeling a wife has for her husbands thougts”. Actually this couple looks like monsters. He looks like a pig and she has a very tiny head (but big breasts!).
Have a look at room 2-A, West Gallery, going until Saturday.

GIRLS – dreamy, dreamer!

March 27th, 2008

Yes, this booth looks dreamy, with pastell colors, cotton balls and cutted out flowers. Japanese girls must be very romantic, it is the second exhibition day and all the cloth are already sold out – like Pjamas and shoes and accesoires. The GIRLS also created some fluffy ancors, kids drawing books and some water color paintings. There might be some nail-polish on them. West 1c until tomorrow!

AaE-Art and Environment

March 27th, 2008

Four people from a Media Design study present their work in West 1b (last day!). Their thoughts about the connection of art and environment are a bit more intelectuall.
First person planted a garden in a bowl, rice stands for birth and the parcely trees for a forest. Her interpretation of art is that it shows between daily experience and unusal things.
Tomohiko Mase implemented a computer – light – plant instellation. It looks like that the computer records an interacting between visitor and plant and the light. He says: “The artist intend to communicate with plants, but the plant never communicates with us. It is a kind of fake, like this installation”.
Yuya Niizeki shows photos of Shinjuku: “people think in urban is no nature, but I proof that wrong”.
Last exhibition piece you can look through bamboo to a screen that shows nature. Every bamboo gives you a different point of view.
